Section outline

  • Advanced statistics: Statistical modelling

    Lausanne, 10-13 June 2014

    Overview

The course will be centered on "statistical modeling" applied to biological problems, and we plan to discuss the following topics: advanced linear models, mixed models, generalized linear models, classification, and a short introduction to some Bayesian statistics. The emphasis will be put on concrete applications in biology.

    Requirements

This course will build up on the content of our course Introduction to statistics for biologists; participants must therefore be comfortable will the topics taught in the introductory course, including hypothesis testing, linear models, correlation and regression. Most importantly, they must have prior knowledge of the "R" language and environment for statistical computing and graphics.

Participants must bring a laptop with at least 4 Gb of RAM and the R software installed. More information about the packages needed will be provided before the course.
