SPARQLing biological data in RDF: a practical introduction for bioinformaticians

Learn how to work with data using RDF and SPARQL. This practical course will present the core concepts of the semantic web and how to make it work for you.
You will learn how to
- model data, using semantic web concepts.
- find information in the data with SPARQL.
- use data in RDF and the query language SPARQL in combination with common tools such as R, Excel and command line tools.
- use public sparql endpoints to quickly enrich your own data.
The course will finish with a brief, but practical discussion about how to evolve from small applications to industrial strength production tools.
Requirements:
Bring laptop with at least 4GB of RAM and virtualbox installed. You will be given a virtual machine image with all software and slides needed for this course.

The registration fees for academics are 50 CHF. The fees include course content material and coffee breaks. Participants from non-academic institutions should contact us.
