    - introduction to R syntax, key concepts and objects

    - introduction to RStudio environment

    - formatting/importing data in R

    - worked example with RNA-Seq data:

       - loading a table of normalized counts

       - validating structure, consistency

       - subsetting

       - summary statistics

       - base R plots and ggplots2
